PUWER Assessments
Ensure the safety of your work equipment in Europe
Users of work equipment in Europe need to comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). This was set up to carry out regular risk assessments. It requires all work equipment to be suitable and safe for its intended task. Meaning it can be used without putting anyone at risk.
PUWER covers any machinery, appliance, apparatus, tool or installation. Effectively, anything used at work, whether exclusively or not.
TÜV SÜD offers comprehensive machinery assessments required by PUWER. These are carried out in accordance with EN ISO 12100. We then provide reports addressing all 24 regulations for each individual machine, highlighting conformity or non-conformities.
You can turn to our PUWER experts for all the advice and assistance you require.
Our services at a glance
As part of the service we can give advice and assistance on one or all of the following:
- Risk assessments - A legal requirement of the Management of Health and Safety Regulations and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, and will be carried out in accordance with EN ISO 12100 General Risk Assessment and electrical systems / safety related control circuitry.
- A report addressing each of the 24 Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations for each individual machine. This will show conformity or highlight non-conformities.
- If there are any areas of concern or recommendations of control methods suggested, EN Standards will be used for the correct control measure where those Standards exist. TÜV SÜD uses for its Risk Assessment, a Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) System. This is a numerical method, which places the risk in a clearly definable hazard category. This provides the opportunity to extract data and statistics to prioritise the work to be carried out.
