IEC 61850
IEC 61850 – The standard making your devices and systems ready to communicate in the smart grid
The increasing focus on renewable energy sources (as well as the German “Renewable Energy Law” and the European “20-20-20 Plan”) will raise the importance of Smart Grids. Thanks to these intelligent networks, the future energy generation and consumption can be efficiently adjusted and optimised. Due to the increasing use of renewable energies from diverse electricity producers like wind farms, photovoltaic facilities etc., more and more new devices must be able to integrate with existing equipment. In order to ensure a smooth and reliable activity in the network, IEC 61850 is the new global standard for power utility communication.
The challenge: smooth and standard-compliant communication
As electricity grid operators and legislators (the German Renewable Energies Act, EEG) will continue to increase the demands on the ability of devices and systems to communicate, a smooth and standard-compliant communication in the Smart Grid becomes more and more important. Proof of conformity to IEC 61850 will then be a precondition for systems being connected to the grid or for the possibility of funding under the EEG. At TÜV SÜD Embedded Systems, we check and certify the conformance with the standard and the interoperability of devices and systems in accordance with IEC 61850. Our certificates will confirm that your equipment is really ready for the Smart Grid.
On August 24th 2012, TÜV SÜD has been accredited by UCAIug as Level A Independent Test Lab.
TÜV SÜD is hereafter authorised to perform IEC 61850 Conformance Testing in accordance with the Users Group Quality Assurance Testing Program Procedures.
